The Smoke House

This project started out with a simple timber frame, we used some mortice and tennon joints to connect the timbers and form the structure along with nails but the joints will help combat any seasonal movement.

The garden backed onto a canal and had great views looking down the waterway. The clients garden boundary actually extended beyond the fence line so we suggested cantilevering the floor just out past the fence to be able to capture the views from the canal

One of my favorite features of this build is the secret door we installed. along with housing a meat smoker our client wanted somewhere to be able to store bikes ad we came to the agreement to design a concealed door which could be locked. The trickiest part was enabling the door to open and close without catching and none of the available hinges on the market could solve this issue so we managed to manufacture our own opening mechanism by installing a bolt through the top and bottom of the door thus changing the pivot point and allowing the door to open without catching.

The build was finished off with a black pine cladding and some lighting and then sanded and painted.
